Who is responsible for your personal development? You? Your company? Or someone else?

That is one question I personally think people should find an answer to! Early on in their lives!

It took me about 22 years post entering the corporate world, so trust me, you aren’t on the wrong track if you haven’t gotten to the answer!

From my 22 years of my corporate experience, I used to believe that investing in my development was my company’s responsibility.

As a senior leader, I was sponsored to attend different leadership courses and retreats that would help develop my skills ‘to lead and organise my team or business better.’

A company invests in the results that it seeks from you, such that your performance increases and that becomes rewarding for the company.

However, in the last 3 years I have steered the control for my learning & development in my own hands, in the areas that I want to grow in as a Coach and life has never been so enriching.

I have progressed 100x times faster towards my life’s purpose, than I did in my first 22 years of my corporate life.

By seizing multiple opportunities to grow as an individual & learning from the worlds’ best, I am accountable for my learning.

We all have more to us than we let ourselves believe. Tap into your unexplored potential and you may surprise yourself.

Take the example of the very best of footballers in the world, Cristiano Rondalo. Over the years he has had access to the very best of coaches and mentors, however one of the most talked about aspects of his life is the extra work he puts into training every single time, without fail!

This is not forced on by the coaches but it is the belief that the more he trains, the better he gets and that is the drive that enables him to outperform himself in his personal life or on the football field!

So, let me know in the comments, WHEN and HOW can YOU take responsibility to invest in yourself, for an outcome aligning to your interests, passions and not wait for your HR?
